West University students deliver handmade blankets to premature babies
published May. 11, 2012
Students Vanessa Fraustro and Lawrence Sandoval from St. Anne's Catholic School recently visited Texas Children's Newborn Center to donate handmade fleece blankets to prematurely delivered babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
This was part of a philanthropic project called the “Preemie Blanket Project,” created by Fraustro and another student, Claire Scott.
The girls wanted to use their community service hours to make a difference in the lives of the nearly 3,000 families dealing with the complications of prematurely delivered babies.
They created more than 50 blankets and, with the help of Dr. Charleta Guillory, distributed them to the families of premature and critically ill newborns.
“These families spend a lot of time in the NICU with their babies, and an unexpected visit and act of kindness can really bring smiles to their faces when they are tired and going through a difficult time,” Guillory said in the press release.
